The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) is one of the oldest drama schools in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1861, it quickly established itself as a centre of excellence in communication and performance training, providing the world of theatre, film and television with generations of first-class actors and performers.
LAMDA has been offering practical examinations in communication and performance subjects for over 130 years. It is now the UK’s leading statutory awarding body for speech and drama. LAMDA qualifications have helped over 80,000 learners of all ages and abilities worldwide to develop lifelong skills.
Using the London Academy of Dramatic Art (LAMDA) Syllabus, we take pupils from the age of 5 to 18 (and often above) through a world-renowned programme improving communication skills, increasing self-confidence and developing strong social skills.
LAMDA is an accredited awarding body of Ofqual (The Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator in England). Communication and Performance Examinations at Level 3 are recognised within the UCAS tariff for UK University entrance.
The process is quite simple. Once you have decided to take the exam, you can register for an exam session. In general, we host exam sessions twice a year, once in early June and then again in Early December.
Once all students have registered for the exam, we work with LAMDA head office to secure a schedule. You will be assigned a date and time slot for your exam.
Exams can run from 10min to over half an hour, depending on the subject you are taking an exam in. Once in the exam room, it will be just you and the examiner.
In general, the examiner will be flown in from the UK to officiate the exams, give you your marks and, eventually, sign and issue your certificate. You can expect your certificate within 6 to 8 weeks after completion of your exam.
The examiners themselves are experts in their fields and have many years of experience, not just as educators and adjudicators, but also as practicing professionals.
With the advent of the global COVID-19 Pandemic, exams are being held remotely. They will work in the same way as mentioned above, however, we now have the opportunity to offer exam sessions at the end of March in addition to our regular, bi-annual sessions. The other difference, of course, being that the examiner will be in the UK while you take your exam.
For information regarding your specific exam, please do not hesitate to contact your tutor and they will guide you every step of the way.
