Top 3 things to look out for in 2018

2018 is looming ahead, staring at us full in the face like an awkward pun, and although the holidays are upon us, Starlit Voice is hard at work making sure that the coming year is at least a billion times more exciting than 2017… one could almost say we are guilty… of resisting… a rest.

Bad word plays aside, here’s what you can look forward to in the first half of 2018.

  1. West End Stage is coming to Hong Kong, and you’re invited!

We’ll just let that sink in for a second; maybe give you a chance to wrap your head around the fact. Ready? Alright, then. WEST END STAGE IS COMING TO HONG KONG AND YOU GET TO BE A PART OF IT! For a whole week, students will get up close and personal with their favourite West End musicals. West End Stage will be flying in straight from the UK to give prospective students the chance to learn from the stars, culminating in a spectacular performance given by the students themselves. This intensive, week-long workshop, will take place from the 16th to the 21st of July, 2018 and is open to anyone between the ages of 8 and 18. Participants will be exposed to the standards expected from professional performers as they learn what it takes to pull off the music, choreography and acting from a number of the most famous West End productions. 1. Timeless, an original Starlit Voice Production.

We are very excited to announce that each and every one of our students will have the opportunity to take to a professional stage in 2018. Timeless is an original Starlit Voice production starring… well… everyone. If you are registered with Starlit Voice in term 2 and 3 of 2018, you will get the chance to perform at the Lee Shau Kee School of Creativity, alongside our DSHK Students, and maybe, just maybe, one or two of our very own practitioners. We have a firm belief that theatre should be an all-inclusive experience and as such we are taking strides to reignite a passion for the arts by introducing this immense and highly ambitious project. Timeless will be given to our students. That’s right. We’ll be there to guide, but in essence, this is a show by our students for the Hong Kong public. From the auditioning process to the lighting and set design, to the props and costumes, the acting, singing and dancing, all of it will be in the hands of our students. Add to that the fact that we’ll be holding auditions for professional theatre actors and you have a recipe for a very unique project; something that has rarely been seen in Hong Kong, if ever. The educational benefit of this is obvious as we allow our students to take the reins and let them make the decisions while having the added advantage of having a team of experts to help them in their endeavours.  This production will be a Sci-Fi Fantasy romp through time and space that will leave audiences breathless and make its mark in the local theatre industry as something truly timeless.

  1. LAMDA Results

Last, but most certainly not least, our December round of LAMDA Examinations were as successful as ever. Through all the nerves and excitement, our students had a great time preparing for their sessions in the exam room this term. As always, we wait with baited breath for the results, and our expectations have never been higher. Through our speech, communication and acting classes, our students not only grew in skill but also the confidence to present their talents in style. The LAMDA Examination, held biannually, holds prospective students to international standards in communication and performance and we have full confidence that each of our entrants will have gone above and beyond the call of duty. Results will be made available in six to eight weeks and we cannot wait to break the news to all our students. The next exam will be held in May 2018 with registrations opening early next year. The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts is the oldest drama school in the UK and has been producing some of the worlds most loved actors and performers since 1861 and is one of the most respected performing arts academies globally. We are very proud to be an official LAMDA Representative in Hong Kong and that our students have the opportunity to be a part of this internationally recognized institution.

2018 is on the horizon and even the excitement is buzzing with excitement! But this list contains just a smidge of the epic-ness that is coming your way. For full details, please browse our website at your leisure.

That being said, though, we cannot possibly forget about the year that has passed us by in the blink of an eye. 2017 had so many amazing moments that it would be difficult to pen them down. From the highly successful performance of Beauty and the Beast to the overwhelming daily responses we receive from our students and their parents, it has been magnificent. From all of us here at Starlit Voice, we would like to thank each and every one of our students, parents and partner schools for another successful year. We hope you all have a very merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year.
